The Ribeira Sacra shines again with this international recognition of Galicia’s heroic viticulture.

We are delighted to share some wonderful news that fills us with pride: Vía Romana Mencía 2024 has been awarded the Gold Medal at the Mondial des Vins Extrêmes, the most prestigious international competition dedicated to wines born from heroic viticulture.
This competition, organized by CERVIM under the patronage of the OIV, is held every year in the Aosta Valley (Italy). An international panel of oenologists and wine experts blind-tastes hundreds of wines from more than 25 countries. Only wines produced in truly extreme conditions — mountain vineyards, terraces with slopes greater than 30%, or altitudes above 500 meters — are eligible to participate.
At Vía Romana, where our vineyards cling to the granite terraces along the Miño River, cultivating the Mencía grape is a true act of courage. Our heroic viticulture, shaped by slopes reaching up to 80%, manual harvesting, and an Atlantic climate with Mediterranean influences, gives rise to wines that capture the essence of their landscape — fresh, mineral, and full of character.

Winemaking: Traditional fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures to preserve the full varietal expression and the characteristic freshness of Mencía.
Tasting Notes:
Appearance: Bright cherry-red color with violet hues.
Aroma: Fresh red fruit (cherries, raspberries) and floral notes, with subtle mineral and balsamic hints that evoke its slate terroir.
Palate: Fresh, juicy, and well-balanced, with soft tannins and an elegant finish that invites another sip.
This award adds to a long list of national and international recognitions that establish Vía Romana as one of the most iconic wines of the Ribeira Sacra.
