Our history begins to be written in 1997 in a sixteenth century manor house which owes its name to a Roman road that linked Astorga with Braga and whose purpose was to transport the exceptional wines of the area along that well-known and well-traveled Via Romana.
We have strains in ages between 15 and 60 years that offer premium grapes and yields per strain less than 3 Kg that make it possible for us to offer unique and quality wines.
The vintage was and still is 100% manual, supporting slopes that reach to reach 75% of inclination denominating this feat as heroic viticulture. Once the grapes arrive to the winery, we manually select each cluster, destemmed and squeezed lightly, the entry of the grapes into the tank is by gravity, the fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks in which the pumping and delestage are daily to favor the extraction of color and the concentrated phenolic compounds in the hat, the fermentation temperature is controlled exhaustively keeping it always between 24-26ºC, with a duration of 12 to 15 days, after which it is uncovered and the malolactic fermentation is carried out.
Fruit of our commitment to constant innovation, we have used both in the past and present Vía Romana Mencía a vegetable clarifier from the pea, as a substitute for the egg white, getting to position ourselves as the first certified wine of Galicia vegan after complying with the strict process required by the Spanish Vegetarian Union and whose recognition is at European level.

Vía Romana Mencía Añada 2016 keeps alive the essence of the first vintage in 1998 where the quiet, the silence in the cellar, the mime in the elaboration adds to the innovation and experience acquired year after year. The fastest runner does not go faster and after remaining a minimum of 8 months in a stainless steel tank at a controlled temperature and 6 months in the bottle today we can affirm that it is at the perfect time to enjoy without hurry!
Nowadays "Vino de Guarda" is fashionable, we bet for it and they called us crazy, they said that we left late, but the 18 vintages that we have behind us guarantee that letting the wines send is important to take the right steps. Our Via Romana is the example to show that you can enjoy the Ribeira Sacra in a glass of wine.
